Siapa ni? Cari Siapa…?

A Y O H (Part 1)
.
This post is quite emotional for me.
.
I was so happy to be back in my hometown to visit my parents. Ayoh (as i called him in Terengganu slang), is unwell and he is not like he used to be.
.
It was during the previous KL Sea Games. Ayoh came with the whole family to support me but Ayoh started to act differently. He just came by the velodrome only for a while and decided to stay at the homestay with my lil bro. He was complaining why was he at such place crowded with people. At the homestay, he went out on his own when my lil bro was sleeping and couldn’t find his way back. Luckily my lil bro realized and immediately went out to find him.
.
Ayoh had a minor stroke probably a couple months before the game. I remember, after I came back from China GP (my last prep tournament before Asia Games), i drove straight back to Dungun to visit them. When i was standing at the front door, i gave Salam and said hello to Ayoh, but guess what’s his reaction? He reacted ‘siapa ni? cari siapa? . Oh Lord, i nearly shed my tears. The last time I visited him, he can’t recognise my face but at least he still recognised my voice. But this time it gets worse.
.
I sat down with him and had a conversation. I told him about myself, my wife and the kids, and tried to convince him with as much pictures as i can. He then finally remembered….but just for a few minutes and again he asked me the same question. ‘Duduk dekat mana? Isteri nama apa? Anak dah berapa?’ Hurmm, only God knows my feeling. It’s very unfortunate because i barely spend time with him due to my my commitment. When i moved to Bukit Jalil Sport School in 2004 to pursue my dream, i rarely went back to my hometown and it has always been this way till today. (Things get worse now).

Without him, i will not be who I am today

.
After I got back from Jakarta, i managed to visit him once again. He remained the same, he still didn’t recognise me and only remembered after i told him about myself. Spending time with him is so precious, more than gaining medals at the Jakarta Asian Games. Sadly, i only managed to spend a very short time with my parents as I had to go back to continue my training. It’s not easy but deep inside, i keep praying to Allah to protect and to grant him a healthy life. I always pray that he will heal and be well like how he used to be. The least that we can do is to keep praying, trying and hoping for the best. I have to continue my journey because i believe Ayoh is proud with my achievements, I believe he wants me to achieve more in my career and i believe he also wants to see me holding the first ever Olympic Gold medal for Malaysia.
.
For me, his contribution is not just for myself but for the nation as well. Without him, i will not be who I am today. Malaysia won’t have a World Champion in Track Cycling and a Bronze medalist at the Olympic Games. Ayoh, you are my strength to keep going and fighting throughout this journey. It’s not easy but i hope it’s going to be worth it.
